Sikkens

In 1792, Wiert Willem Sikkens founded a factory for the manufacture of lacquers along the city wall of Groningen. Today, Sikkens is an internationally recognized brand that, thanks to its passion for only the best quality, convinces customers throughout Europe, North America, Asia and Australia.

We started small, but have grown continuously - and with us our reputation for products and services you can rely on. Research and development already occupied an important place at Sikkens in the 1920s. This is how our laboratory for new product development and quality assurance was created in 1924.

Sikkens quickly became a manufacturer of special lacquers for the furniture-making industry and the car and aircraft industry. These business units still exist today; here we count many well-known companies among our customers. To be closer to the customer, the company moved to Sassenheim in 1939. The shortage of raw materials after the war forced the company to take creative steps - which led to the development of the synthetic resin lacquers.

In 1960 we became the international market leader through a series of mergers and acquisitions. Today, Sikkens is part of the AkzoNobel group, making it one of the largest manufacturer of paints and lacquers in the world.
